The Zenith Bolt – Restored Felling Axe

Marshall Wells Hardware Company was formed in 1892 when A.M. Marshall bought controlling interest in Chapin Wells Hardware company in Duluth, Minnesota. He changed the name from the Chapin Wells Hardware Company to the Marshall Wells Hardware Company, and by 1917, the name was changed to the Marshall Wells Company, and the word ‘Hardware” was dropped from the name as the company expanded is product offerings. The United States interests in the company were reportedly sold and liquidated by 1958, and the Zenith shooting-star logo was no more. The Kelly Axe Co. started in Vermont in 1835, and over the years acquired many tool companies, Marshall-Wells included, and ended it’s American manufacturing in Charleston WV. – mostly likely the provenience of this axe.

This 4 lb. single bit wide Dayton Pattern Axe head was refurbished and rehung on a 36″ American Hickory handle, and finished in hopes that it’s falling star will rise again – and fall swiftly and strong into it’s target.
