The Gentleman Caller, A Restored Fireman's Axe - Todd Roeth

The Gentleman Caller – A restored Fireman’s Axe.

The Warren Axe & Tool Company was founded in 1893. 120 years later, (this summer, to be more specific) my father gave me a Warren A&T axe head he found in his wanderings. With some minor attention to the steel, it’s edge was found again, and hung on a stout 20″ American Hickory handle and finished in a dapper collared paint job.

Prior to refinishing the tool, and before any research, I misread the rusty trademark emboss in the steel to read “AT&T” – the telephone company. What a hell of message this axe would send, I thought immediately. I promptly re-christend it the “Gentleman Caller”. To some chagrin, when the rust was removed, there was only one T in the stamp. No matter, the A&T (Axe & Tool) was named, and like a good gentleman, and like this axe, is firm in it’s decisions and aware of their consequences.

For sale to a good owner on Esty.
